Outcome of Chief of Bangladesh Army Staff General's visit to US made public

DAKHA, 14 February 2021, (TON): The chief of Bangladesh Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed returned home on Friday morning, wrapping up his official trip to the United States of America. Press release issued by Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) today said that General Aziz left Dhaka for the United States on 29 January following an invitation by his US counterpart. General Aziz met senior officers of the US Army and visited various military installations and training facilities during his visit. The press release added that bilateral cooperation between the two countries was discussed.

The main focus of the visit was his meeting with Deputy Assistant Secretary to the Office of the Secretary of Defence for Policy South and Southeast Asia and the representative of Defense Security Cooperation in which future strategy in the regions was discussed. During series of briefings General Aziz was familiarized with US strategic policy in South Asia and south East Asia as well whole region. Fault lines and role of UN peacekeeping mission involving combat role was also discussed.

General Aziz also had detail discussion with James Charles McConville and the meeting took place in the background of General McConville earlier statement, “We win with our people doing the right things the right way. When we send the US Army somewhere, we don’t go to participate, we don’t go to try hard, we go to win. There is no second place or honorable mention in combat.”

According to the details, Bangladesh has also been assigned combat role during peacekeeping role in Africa. Bangladesh has agreed to deploy a helicopter unit of the Bangladesh Army to the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali and provide a 13-member military police detachment to Democratic Republic of Congo.
