BEIJING, 7 July , 2026 (TON): At least 16 people remain buried after a landslide struck the mountainous region of Gansu Province in western China, according to Chinese media. Of the 33 people initially trapped, 17 have been rescued.

Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms in central China's Hubei Province claimed at least eight lives, while one person remains missing.Chinese President Xi Jinping has directed authorities to make every effort to rescue those affected.

The National Meteorological Centre has also warned of heavy rainfall across several regions, raising the risk of landslides and severe weather, as China remains on alert for Super Typhoon Bavi approaching Taiwan.
