SANAA, 14 July 2026 (TON): Yemen's Houthi movement launched missiles toward Saudi Arabia on Monday, accusing the kingdom of carrying out an airstrike on an airport under Houthi control. The attack marks the first claimed strike against Saudi Arabia since an informal truce began in March 2022.
Saudi Arabia said its air defense systems successfully intercepted the incoming missiles before they reached their targets. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed the group targeted Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia's southern Asir region.
The Yemeni government said the runway at Sanaa International Airport had been targeted to prevent an Iranian aircraft from landing, alleging it would have violated the country's sovereignty. The renewed exchange has raised concerns over the stability of the long-standing ceasefire.
