RAWALPINDI, 23 August 2026 (TON): On the request of Punjab provincial government, the Federal Government has approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army for “sensitive security duties” for six months in Rawalpindi .

The Punjab’s home department confirmed the request for deployment under new constitutional amendment. However, there was no extraordinary movement expect in Chaklala garrison.

As per the reports notification issued by the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, the federal Government, exercising the powers conferred under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan authorized the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army for sensitive security duties in Rawalpindi.

The authorization has been made on the basis of intelligence reports that miscreants may create law and order situation and to cater untoward situation in Rawalpindi district the deployed companies would aid civil administration in the maintenance of law and order.

The decision has so far no connection with recent Supreme Court’s order for the medical treatment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party Imran Ahmed Khan Naizi as the hospitals are located in Islamabad and not at Rawalpindi. However, the present deployment can only be linked with a political activity if as in the past a convict was transferred to hospital in Rawalpindi and then airlifted abroad.
