COLOMBO, 8 July, 2026 (TON): Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has said the government is considering introducing restrictions on social media access for children under the age of 16 as part of efforts to improve online child safety.
Addressing Parliament, the prime minister said the proposal is currently under discussion through consultations led by the National Childcare and Protection Society.
She added that the government is also working with World Vision on initiatives aimed at strengthening child protection and promoting safer digital environments for young users.
