Death toll in Spain-Morocco border crisis in Ceuta rises to 69

RABAT, 2 August 2026 (TON): The death toll in Spain's Ceuta border crisis with Morocco has risen to 69, the Spanish government said Saturday.

Spain said it was installing a containment barrier along the breakwater fence extending into the sea after tens of thousands of migrants breached the border of the tiny Spanish territory this week.

There are reports that there could be additional casualties on the Moroccan side of the border. Some of the victims were drowned, while others were crushed while trying to climb the breakwater that holds the border fence. Spanish military soldiers and police were seen all along the border with orders to shoot at sight.
