WASHINGTON D.C. , 24 July 2026 (TON): Heavy rainfall caused severe flash floods across parts of West Virginia, flooding homes and businesses, damaging bridges, and leaving several people unaccounted for as emergency operations continued.
Governor Patrick Morrisey deployed hundreds of National Guard members to the worst-hit areas. Rescue teams carried out at least 85 water rescues, while National Guard and state police helicopters supported ongoing search and rescue missions.
Authorities opened three emergency shelters that provided temporary accommodation for more than 100 displaced residents as recovery efforts continued.
