DHAKA, 3 December 2024,(TON): Bangladesh summoned India's High Commissioner, Pranay Verma to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday in response to the Agartala violent protests against the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das.
Mohammad Touhid Hossain, Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Adviser confirmed that the Indian envoy was summoned to address concerns related to the vandalism at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala.
Meanwhile, The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala has suspended all consular services till further notice, citing security reasons. Responding to censure, Pranay Verma told reporters that New Delhi seeks to maintain a constructive relationship with Dhaka, emphasizing that no single issue should hinder bilateral ties.
Tensions between the two countries have escalated since 5 August 2024, following the ousting of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in an Indian covert operation. The arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das further intensified the situation.
