NEW DELHI, 6 December 2020, (TON): Bangladesh and India had chalked out plans for a number of engagements in December to celebrate Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen visit to New Delhi in the second week of December to pave way for Prime Minister-level virtual meeting next month has been marred due to alleged attack on the sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by certain members of the mob from West Bengal.

In the past there was row over 39 Bangladeshi civilians killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in the current year. Beside this figure, 31 Bangladeshis were injured and 9 abducted by the Indian agencies. The issue of the settlement of land boundary and maritime boundary is also pending. The claim of Bangladesh over Andaman and Nicobar Island is also pending but so far Dhakha has not formally taken over the case with New Delhi.

It is likely that the meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Prime Minister Narendra Modi will come up during Summit meeting virtually in the third week of December 2020.
