COLOMBO, 4 April, 2021 (TON): The Police say 13,320 motorcyclists have been charged in the three-day island wide operation carried out to reduce the number of accidents involving motorcycles.

DIG Ajith Rohana stated that 450 motorcycles unfit for use on the road have been seized during the operation carried out island wide during the past 72 hours.

Among the charged were, 398 drunken motorcyclists, 139 for driving recklessly, 108 speeding motorcyclists, 1997 motorcyclists without helmets, 1303 persons for riding without licenses, and 2806 for violating traffic laws and 6186 for various other offenses.

DHAKA, 28 March, 2021, (TON): Three people were killed and four others were wounded in an accident at Padua area of Lohagara Upazila on Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar highway early Sunday.

The dead were identified as Shah Alam, 41, Md Ayas, 40, and Md Jahangir, 30. They all were residents of Ukhiya Upazila in Cox's Bazar, said officer-in-charge of Dohazari Highway police station.

The accident took place as Cox's Bazar-bound Noah hit a truck, parked beside the road, from the back after its driver lost control over the gear at about 3:00 am in front of Padua Union Parishad office at Lohagara Upazila, he said.

The accident left Shah Alam dead on the spot while Ayas and Jahangir were declared dead at Chakaria hospital in the morning while undergoing treatment, he added.

The injured were undergoing treatment at Chakaria and Cox's Bazar hospital, the OC said.

AUSTIN, Texas, 20 March, 2021, (TON): Primer figures demonstrate that around 57 individuals kicked the bucket during the February winter storm that crushed Texas.

According to state health officials, the cause of the majority of deaths was hypothermia. This was followed by motor vehicle accidents, carbon monoxide poisoning, medical equipment failure, falls, and fire.

The passing’s happened in 25 areas between Feb. 11 and March 5, the state said. The colder time of year storm deadened enormous segments of Texas, taking out open utilities. At its pinnacle, almost 4.5 million homes were without power and warmth.

The massive storm caused the state electricity grid to be knocked offline. Additionally, the weather prevented electricity from being generated by all power sources, including natural gas, coal, wind and nuclear.

In the fallout, state officials are looking for answers from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which works the force matrix traversing the majority of the state, alongside the Texas Public Utility Commission, which is liable for the tasks of the state's electric and water utilities.
