NEW DELHI, 28 September 2020, (TON): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, few days back, announced a US $15-million grant for the promotion of Buddhist cultural exchanges, however, put Colombo’s requests for deferment of its debt repayment and a currency swap on the back burner.

Indian Sri-Lankan strategy has moved from an effort of close relations to interference in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka. Prime Minister Modi asked Sri Lanka to address the aspirations of the Tamil people for equality, justice, peace and respect within a united Sri Lanka. Indian Prime Minister stressed carrying forward the process of reconciliation with the implementation of the 13Amendment to the Constitution.

There is no doubt, India played double card with regard to operations against Tamils and elimination of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and now India is playing another game for the rights of Tamils, whereas in India, the Tamils are highly marginalized.

Where New Delhi is adamant to pressurize Colombo to address the Tamil minority’s aspirations, with the implementation of the 13th Amendment, Indian own house is in bad order, where in more than 23 States the rights of the minorities have been suppressed.
