DHAKA, 07 January 2022, (TON): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened a world-class architecture, ‘Bangabandhu Military Museum’, in the capital to exhibit the country’s military history, heritage and success, particularly its incredible valour and bravery throughout the Liberation War.

The Prime Minister virtually inaugurated the eye-catching museum from her official Ganobhaban residence here.

The Bangabandhu Military Museum was built on a 10-acre land adjacent to Bangabandhu Novo Theater (Planetarium) in the city’s Bijay Sarani area having a collection of military hardware, weapons and equipment.

The museum has six separate parts, including designated galleries for Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force.

MOSCOW, 07 January 2022, (TON): A Russian-led force has arrived in Kazakhstan at the request of the country's authoritarian president, amid a violent crackdown on anti-government protests.

Machine gun fire reverberated through the largest city Almaty after days of unrest sparked by a fuel price hike.

Officials have reported deaths of police and protesters.

The president has blamed foreign-trained terrorists, without giving evidence.

In an address on state TV, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev appealed to the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) for support in quelling the protests.

The bloc includes Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tajikistan and Armenia.

The Russian news agency reports “the overseas force being sent to Kazakhstan reportedly numbers about 2,500 soldiers. The CSTO says the troops are a peacekeeping force and will protect state and military installations. They will stay in the country for several days or weeks.”

RIYADH, 07 January 2022, (TON): During his official visit to Doha “Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al-Jasser held talks with Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz, Qatari prime minister and interior minister.”

Saudi Press Agency reported “the talks dealt with ways of developing relations between the two countries in various fields.”

Al-Jasser also met with Qatari counterpart Jassim Al-Sulaiti to discuss opportunities for cooperation between them in the fields of transport and logistics.

During the meeting, he stressed the historical and strategic relations between the Kingdom and Qatar, which is based on the bonds of brotherhood, neighborliness and a common Gulf destiny.

JERUSALEM, 07 January 2022, (TON): The military said “Israeli tanks fired on suspects along the Syrian border in the Golan Heights after they were detected near its forces.”

The army said in a brief statement “a short time ago during army activity in the Golan Heights, soldiers identified suspects close to a military position and fired in their direction from tanks.”

It added “the suspects then moved away into Syrian territory.”

In the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel seized part of the strategic Golan Heights, bordered by Lebanon, which patrols there from Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based monitor, said a fire broke out in the forest near the village and that there had been Israeli helicopters present, but did not mention casualties.

AL-MUKALLA, 07 January 2022, (TON): Residents told media “the Iran-backed Houthis set ablaze dozens of empty houses belonging to the Yemeni government supporters in the western province of Hodeidah as they kicked off reprisal attacks against people who opposed them.”

Military officials and ordinary people who had supported the government forces in Hodeidah said that armed Houthis stormed several villages in the province’s Durihimi district and burnt their houses and seized their property.

Ibrahim Al-Lahji, a military official at the government’s Tehama Resistance, said “the Houthis burnt more than 40 houses belonging to 40 families and confiscated our farms.”

Images posted on social media showed several huts on fire.

Al-Lahji is among hundreds of local people who joined the Arab coalition-backed Yemeni forces that took part in a major military offensive that led to seizing control of a large swathe of land in Hodeidah province in December 2018.

The statement says “on January 6, 2022, telephone talks were held between the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, and the Minister of Defense of the United States of America, Lloyd James Austin. Security issues of mutual interest were discussed.”

Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby provided the readout that on January 6, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke with Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Shoygu.

WASHINGTON DC, 07 January 2022, (TON): Former US President Donald Trump said “the accusations leveled against him by the current White House owner Joe Biden on the anniversary of the storming of the Capitol are intended to distract public attention from the failures of the current administration and further split the country.”

Earlier Thursday, “Biden accused his predecessor of trying a year ago to thwart a peaceful transfer of power in the United States, spending hours of inactivity in an unprecedented attack on congressional buildings and weaving a web of lies amid a failure to admit defeat in the 2020 elections.”

DHAKA, 07 January 2022, (TON): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address the nation today evening marking completion of the third year of the current tenure of Awami League government.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told media "the Prime Minister will deliver her speech at 7pm today to mark the completion of the Awami League government's third year in office in present term.”

Her speech will be broadcast by Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private TV channels and radio stations.

Sheikh Hasina was sworn-in as the Prime Minister for the fourth time, third in a row, on January 7, 2019.

KABUL, 07 January 2022, (TON): An official said “eleven people have been killed and 23 others injured as a result of heavy snowfall and flash floods across the country.”

Reports suggest most parts of the country were lashed by heavy snowfall and rains, triggering flash floods, roof-collapse incidents and severe cold.

A Disaster Management Ministry official told Bakhtar News Agency that 11 people were killed and 23 others injured in the recent wet spell.

Helmand, Nimroz, Farah, Nangarhar, Badakhshan, Jawzjan, Takhar, Kandahar and Takhar provinces were hit by floods while people suffered elsewhere due to heavy snowfall.

The Disaster Management Commission, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, met to take stock of the situation.
