ISLAMABAD, 10 October 2020. (TON): A three-member bench of Supreme Court of Pakistan has observed that the Pakistan had no actual extradition treaty with the US.
The observation was made on Thursday while hearing a petition filed by Talha Haroon, an American national accused of planning a bomb attack in New York, challenging his extradition to US and handing over to the American authorities. The court extended stay order on Haroon’s extradition to the US till final decision.
An additional attorney general informed the court that Washington had extradited two suspects namely Farid Tawakal and Farooq Tawakal to Islamabad in 2008. The input revealed by the Foreign Affairs Ministry said “Pakistan had adopted a bilateral agreement signed between the US and the UK in 1932”. The bench ordered Foreign Office officials to appear before the court at the next hearing along with properly prepared for the case on the subject.
