DHAKA, 12 April 2022, (TON): Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa has said “his country will continue to assist Bangladesh in the efforts to repatriate the Rohingyas to Myanmar.”

He made the assurance when Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen sought more involvement from Japan for an early solution to the Rohingya problem.

During their bilateral meeting at the Japanese Foreign Ministry, Bangladesh placed the issue of the Rohingya problem and steps taken so far including the relocation of 30,000 Rohingyas voluntarily to Bhashan Char.

Minister Hayashi raised the situations in Ukraine, North Korea and in the Indo-Pacific and sought Bangladesh’s understanding and cooperation.

Dr Momen said Bangladesh is a peace-loving country and is against war.

GHAZA, 11 April 2022, (TON): According to Israeli police and official Palestinian media “two Palestinian women have been killed by Israeli forces in separate incidents in the occupied West Bank.”

Palestinian health ministry said “a Palestinian woman was shot by Israeli forces near the city of Bethlehem.”

The ministry said “the woman, aged in her 40s, died after she suffered a torn artery and massive blood loss.”

She was identified as Ghada Ibrahim Sabatien, a widowed mother of six.

The Israeli army said “troops fired warning shots in the air when a suspect approached and then fired towards the suspect’s lower body, near the southern town of Husan.”

NEW YORK, 11 April 2022, (TON): The United States still does not share the idea of transferring Soviet-made fighter jets to Ukraine through German territory.

This was stated by Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan in an interview.

He stressed “the only thing the US expressed doubt about was sending fighter jets through the American base in Germany.”

He stressed “if a country in Eastern Europe wants to supply [Ukraine] MiG-29 or other Soviet-made aircraft, then we said that this their own decision. We said that we would not send them [planes] from Germany.”

Earlier, the Polish Foreign Ministry said that the authorities of the republic are ready to immediately and free of charge send all of their 28 MiG-29 fighters to the Ramstein airbase in Germany and transfer them to the United States.

TEHRAN, 11 April 2022, (TON): The American side must guarantee non-exit from the nuclear deal if a compromise is reached during the negotiations in Vienna.

The corresponding appeal addressed to the President of Iran was published by the Majlis (parliament) of the country.

The Mehr news agency quoted the text of the statement “in the new negotiations, the United States is obliged to give legal guarantees of non-withdrawal from the nuclear deal, and they must be confirmed by key American state institutions.”

LONDON, 11 April 2022, (TON): The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf has stressed the bloc's support to international efforts aimed at dealing with the stranded Safer oil tanker and the importance of speeding up these endeavors.

During a meeting with UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen David Gressly and the US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking, he also reaffirmed the continuous support to alleviate the suffering of Yemeni people.

Their discussions covered efforts of the humanitarian organizations in Yemen and the means required to enhance joint coordination to support regional and international efforts in conjunction with the UN-brokered cease-fire, which came into force on April 2.

VIENNA, 11 April 2022, (TON): Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer is set to visit Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This information was confirmed to media by the office of the Federal Chancellor of Austria in response to a related question.

The chancellor’s office said in response to a request to confirm information from the Austrian media that Nehammer intends to visit Moscow “we can confirm the trip planned for Monday.”

The Kremlin spokesman said “information about the negotiations was also confirmed by the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov. “Yes, we confirm.”

Earlier, the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung reported that Nehammer intended to make this trip after talks this weekend with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev.

The trip was coordinated with the leadership of the European Union and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. As noted in the environment of the chancellor, Nehammer wants to make an attempt to promote a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

GENEVA, 11 April 2022, (TON): According to the United Nations refugee agency “more than 4.5 million Ukrainian refugees have fled their country since the Russian invasion on February 24.”

The UNHCR said “there were 4,503,954 Ukrainian refugees on Sunday. That was 62,291 more than the previous day.”

Europe has not seen such a flood of refugees since World War II.

Ninety percent of those who have fled Ukraine are women and children, as the Ukrainian authorities do not allow men of military age to leave.

According to the UN’s International Organization for Migration, around 210,000 non-Ukrainians have also fled the country, sometimes encountering difficulties returning to their home countries.

A further 7.1 million people have been displaced within the country, according to figures published by the IOM on April 5.

RIYADH, 11 April 2022, (TON): Saudi Minister of Health Fahad Al-Jalajel met the UK’s ambassador to the Kingdom, Neil Crompton, at the ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh.

During the meeting they discussed “a number of topics related to strengthening health cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the UK.”

The UK ambassador praised the efforts of the Kingdom during the pandemic, which contributed to minimizing its effects, and reviewed the ministry’s experience in transformation programs and its aims to elevate the quality of its services.

Afterwards, the ambassador visited the virtual hospital, and listened to a presentation about the services that it provides.

RIYADH, 11 April 2022, (TON): Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister met with the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen David Gressly.

During the meeting “Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Gressly reviewed ways of enhancing joint coordination between the Kingdom and the UN to support regional and international efforts aimed at achieving growth and prosperity for the Yemeni people.”

The meeting was attended by US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking and the Kingdom’s ambassador to Yemen Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Jaber.

KABUL, 11 April 2022, (TON): In a special interview, Bahadur Aminian, Iran ambassador to Kabul, said “Iran is currently hosting more than five million Afghans as there has been no change in Tehran’s policy toward Afghan refugees.”

He said “we have a group called the People’s Mujahideen Organization of Iran, which has appointed thousands of people just to release clips, they are active in Afghanistan and Iran as well and everywhere.”

This comes as the Iran embassy in Kabul on Saturday released a statement referring to Iranian border forces’ treatment of Afghans, saying “Tehran has created no hurdles to welcome Afghan migrants but Iranian forces are obliged to prevent illegal migrations.”

Aminian told “the videos, which show Afghan refugees being harassed, are made by some circles who seek to make plots to undermine the relations between Kabul and Tehran.”
