ISLAMABAD, 23 September 2924, (TON): - The new world champion, Shahzaib Rind upon his return to Pakistan from Singapore was accorded a hero’s welcome.        

High level dignitaries and large number of enthusiastic fans greeted him at Islamabad International Airport to give Shahzaib Rind with warm applause and cheers.                

Shahzaib won the Karate Combat KC-49 Championship, overpowering Brazilian fighter Luiz Victor Rocha in Singapore in an intense bout on Wednesday.

He remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, making history as the first Pakistani to win a major world championship in the martial arts.

Shahzaib has previously won the Combat League in the United States. He is also a six-time national champion.

RAWALPINDI, 14 September 2024, (TON): - Indian men’s hockey team defeated Pakistan 2-1 in its final group stage match at the Asian Champions Trophy on Saturday.

India’s first half of the first quarter went about in defending, after Pakistan scored its first goal in the eighth minute.

With penalty corner conversions on India’s side and Harmanpreet Singh scoring twice, Pakistan had a lot to catch up on. However, two yellow cards including demoralized the team attempt to catch up to the Indian team.

Indian hockey team showed exceptional skills on the field, dominating the game with their strategic plays and precise execution.

 

 

L' Alpe d' Huez (France), 18 August 2024, (TON) - Kasia Niewiadoma of Poland won the Tour de France Femmes on Sunday, beating the defending champion, Demi Vollering, by just four seconds.

Tour de France is a race that was almost 950km long.

Niewiadoma, 29, was full of tears when she realized she had won by four seconds.

AMSTERDAM,15 August 2024, (TON) - The 2024 WSF World Masters Squash Championships begin at the Fran Otten Stadion in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on Thursday 15 August as a record 1227 players prepare to compete for the world championship titles. The competition concludes on 22 August.

The concept of the Nations Cup is that all members of a national team can contribute to their nation’s success, with the Nations Cup awarded to the country whose players produce the best overall performance across age groups and both men’s and women’s competitions in the championships.

The competition is divided into two categories, with one competition for countries with 10 or more individual entries and a second for countries with 9 or fewer individual entries.

Points are awarded to each individual competitor according to their final position in the competition. A divisor system is then used to attribute points.

SWITZERLAND, 5 DECEMBER 2023 (TON): The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has convened the 12th Olympic Summit for Tuesday, 5 December 2023. This meeting will be held at Olympic House, Lausanne, Switzerland. IOC President Thomas Bach has convened the 12th Olympic Summit, which he will chair.

Discussions will focus on several topics of interest to the Olympic Movement, including the unifying mission of the Olympic Games in the international community, the upcoming Olympic Games Paris 2024, updates on other forthcoming editions of the Olympic Games, e-sports within the Olympic Movement, and digital engagement as well as the protection of athletes.

The Olympic Summit brings together leading representatives of the Olympic Movement. It forms part of the ongoing dialogue and consultation on important issues and subjects of significance for the future of the Olympic Movement.

TOKYO, 7 August 2021, (TON): Neeraj Chopra of India on Saturday became the second Indian to win an individual gold in the Olympics and first track-and-field Games medal for India. Neeraj Chopra, who is from Indian Khandra village near Panipat in Haryana, produced a second-round throw of 87.58m in the finals to stun the athletics world and end India's 100-year wait for a track and field medal in the Olympics.

Chopra won the country's seventh medal and first gold in this Olympics and joined shooter Abhinav Bindra (2008 Beijing Games) as India's individual gold winner.

Indian Prime Minister has congratulated Neeraj Chopra for his superb performance.

TOKYO, 31 July 2021, (TON): The Czech Republic kept it close for most of the first half, but the Americans adopted  defensive intensity in the second half and performed a better team coordination. 

Durant scored 23 points on just 8-of-11 shooting to lead the US to second half 119 - 84 victory over the Czech Republic.

The US  ends group play with a 2-1 record and will advance to the quarterfinals, which begin Tuesday. The opponent and game time will be determined following the end of pool play Sunday.

BUENOS AIRES, 26 November 2020, (TON): Top football legend Diego Maradona, the Argentine soccer great who led his country to World Cup has died. He was 60.  

Ahead of his 60th birthday in October, Maradona told France Football magazine that it was his dream to “score another goal against the English, this time with the right hand.”

Maradona’s spokesman, Sebastián Sanchi, said he died Wednesday of a heart attack, two weeks after being released from a hospital in Buenos Aires following brain surgery.

His reputation become controversial due to cocaine use and  and his addictions, he remained idolized in soccer-mad Argentina as the “Pibe de Oro” or “Golden Boy.”

Argentinean Government has announced three days of national mourning. At least one million people are expected to march past Diego Maradona’s coffin tomorrow while he lies in state at the Casa Rosada presidential palace in Argentina’s capital city of Buenos Aires.
The doors of the Casa Rosada will be opened early morning 11 am GMT  on Tuesday for the public, who will give the football superstar a hero’s farewell. Huge crowds have already gathered at the city’s landmark obelisk on the wide 9 de Julio Avenue, as well as outside the Argentinos Juniors football stadium where Maradona began his stellar career.

KABUL, 17 October 2020, (TON): With the theme of the Afghan Premier League “one nation, one voice,” the match ended with 1-0 Shaheen Asmayee’s Fardin Hakimi scored the winning goal of the match in the first half.  

Both side carried out attacks on each other’s side but the only goal was made by in the 19th minute of the match.

The stadium was packed with thousands of spectators, including prominent Afghan political figures including parliament speaker, military commanders and government functionaries.    Shaheen Asmayee, De Maiwand Atalan, Toofan Harirod, Simorgh Alborz, Mawjhai Amu, De Spinghar Bazan, De Abasin Sape, and Oqaban Hindukosh are the eight APL teams representing all 34 provinces in Afghanistan. The four teams in the semifinals round were Shaheen Asmayee, De Spin Ghar Bazan, Toofan Harirod, and Simorgh Alborz.

Toofan Harirod won the championship for two consecutive years in 2018 and 2019. 

LONDON, 3 October 2020 (FM): The London Marathon on Sunday will be a battle of the Kenyan titans as Brigid Kosgei, who holds the women's marathon world record takes on world Champion Ruth Chepngetich.

Kosgei won the Chicago Marathon last year in a record time of 2 hours, 14 minutes, 4 seconds.

But this year's race will be different due to coronavirus. The London Marathon has been reduced to elite runners only and will have no spectators.
