Defending champion India wins Women's Junior Asia Cup

MUSCAT, 16 December 2024, (TON): India lifts Women's Junior Asia Cup after beating China in penalty strokes. Indian hockey team beat China 3-2 in penalty strokes in the final of the Women’s Junior Asia Cup in Muscat, Oman, on Sunday.

Earlier, India beat Japan 3-1 to enter the final of the Women’s Junior Asia Cup in Muscat on Saturday as it eyes to defend its title. India also defeated the winner of the second semifinal played China in the final on Sunday.

Jinzhuang Tan (30) scored the first goal for China but Indian Kanika Siwach (41) bagged the equalizer in the third quarter that took the match into a penalty shootout. India’s goalkeeper Nidhi made three crucial saves during the penalty shootout to help her side lift the title. Both side played very well.

Hockey India (Indian Hockey Federation) announced a reward of Rs 2 lac for each player and Rs 1 lac to each support staff for everyone’s effort and winning the championship.
