Australia's former cricketer Dean Jones dies of heart stroke

MUMBAI, 25 September, 2020, (TON): Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones, who took modern ODI cricket to new heights, died of heart attack at age of 59 on Thursday. He was born in Melbourne on March 24, 1961. Jones was in Mumbai, India as member of commentary team for IPL 2020.

Jones played 52 Tests and 164 ODIs for Australia. He was considered the best ODI finisher of his time. Jones scored 3631 runs in 52 Tests at an average of 46.55, including 11 centuries and 14 half-centuries. He scored 6068 runs in 164 ODIs at an average of 44.61. He has seven centuries and 46 half-centuries in ODIs. He scored 19,188 runs in 245 first-class matches, including 55 centuries and 88 half-centuries. Jones made his ODI debut against Pakistan in Adelaide on January 30, 1984, and his Test debut against the West Indies in Port of Spain on March 16 of the same year. His international Test career spanned nearly eight years and he last played in a Test against Sri Lanka in September 1992. Jones last played an ODI on April 6, 1994 against South Africa.

He was head coach of Pakistan Super League franchise Islamabad United from 2015 to 2019. Cricketers from all over the world have expressed their grief over the loss of a great player.
