General Bipin Rawat takes over as new Indian Army Chief

As General Dalbir Singh Suhag retired on 31st December, Indian Eastern Army Commander, Lieutenant General Praveen Bakshi, Lieutenant General BS Negi and Southern Army Commander, Lieutenant General PM Hariz couldn’t win the race and have been superseded while General Bipin Rawat has taken over as the Chief of Army Staff.

Congress and some Indian media started giving religious colour to the whole issue because one of the superseded officers, Lieutenant General PM Hariz was a Muslim. The wife of superseded officer, His wife Ms Zarina Hariz, was quite satisfied with the appointment of General Bipin Rawat and ruled out appointment of Indian Chief on religious grounds.
