US Delegation in Bangladesh

DHAKA, 15 September 2024, (TON): - A high-level US delegation led by Treasury Deputy Under Secretary for International Finance, Brent Neiman, has arrived in Dhaka on Saturday (duration 14 – 16 September). The delegation includes Assistant Secretary of State for the US Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu, as well as representatives from the US Department of the Treasury, USAID, and the Office of the US Trade Representative.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin said the delegation is coming to Dhaka following the interim government’s assumption of power. This is a strong indication that the United States values its relationship with Bangladesh. The discussions will be multidimensional and not limited to a single topic, with preparations being made accordingly.

Source said that the delegation is in Dhaka with agenda points including changes in rules and regulations to facilitate American businessmen, Rohyngya facilitation and strategic military deals. They are here also to ensure the award of energy and other deals and early payments to American businessmen by Bangladeshi authorities.

The US delegation is scheduled to meet Chief Adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, military hierarchy, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed and Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin.
