DUBLIN, 4 December 2024, (TON):European Union elections in the Republic of Ireland held on Friday,29 November 2024. Ballot boxes were opened at 9 a.m. (0900 GMT) at the count centres across the country.
Exit polls show voter’s support is divided among the three big parties (Fine Gael , Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein ) and other small parties along wiith a mix of independents spanning the political spectrum in ireland.
According to the poll 21% of voters chose Fine Gael while 19.5% voted for Fiana Fail and Sinn Fein got 21.1 % in the poll with the margin of error in the survey being plus or minus 1.4%.
Final result shows Fianna Fail got lead over Fine Gael and got 48 seats followed by Sinn Fein got 39 seats and Fine Gael was third with 38 seats. 88 seats are required to form a majority in the lower house of parliament in order to form a government .
Given Ireland's complex parliamentary system , forming a government will likely take time as parties and independents negotiate potential coalition.
