BAGHDAD, 12 0ctober, 2020, (TON):  An array of Iran-backed Iraqi militia groups has suspended rocket attacks on United State forces on condition that the government of Iraq will present a timetable for withdrawal of American troops, one of the pro-Iran groups said on Sunday. A Spokesperson for the Iran-backed militia Kataib Hezbollah group told media that "The factions have presented a conditional cease-fire; It includes all factions of the (anti-US) resistance, including those who have been targeting US forces".

Decision by parliament came after a US drone strike at Baghdad airport, in which Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and Iraq's Paramilitary Forces chief Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were killed.

Iraqi militia group warned US that if America will not honour Iraqi Parliament’s decision and will insist on staying then the factions will make use of all the weapons at their disposal and they would unleash much more violent attacks. A parliamentary resolution must be implemented by Iraqi government in January 2021 for the complete withdrawal of foreign troops from Iraq.

On the other hand, US is gradually dropping its 5,000 troops in Iraq to a minimum level and threatened to shuts its Embassy unless the Iraqi government reins in Iran-aligned militias that have attacked US interests with rockets and roadside bombs.

US officials claims that Kataib Hezbollah is responsible for dozens of rocket attacks against US installations in Iraq while Hezbollah denies carrying them out. However, the claim of Hezbollah is authenticated by the ground facts that Hezbollah was in alliance with foreign forces and did not attacks American installations in Iraq. In the past, almost all the attacks were carried out by the elements loyal to former President Saddam Hussain and Sunni orthodox masses. Nevertheless, the threats issued by the pro-Iranian groups is for face-saving as White House has already planned to withdraw all the troops from Iraq and Afghanistan by Christmas or early next year. A commander of a pro-Iranian group said on the condition of anonymity that their groups and Iraqi parliament does not recommend early withdrawal and it will turn Iraq into a battle-ground in which masses still loyal to the cause of Saddam Hussain will try to regain power.
