A senior US ambassador to Pakistan will soon take charge of the US mission after a lapse of five years in Islamabad. US President Joe Biden has appointed Donald Blome as ambassador to Pakistan as Washington wants to work with Islamabad on the situation in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of American troops last year. 

The US designated envoy is a career diplomat who has performed multiple important responsibilities in the Middle East region form the last 2 decades. US ambassador-designate to Pakistan Donald Armin Blome has completed all procedures and formalities for scheduling to Islamabad, bringing a hefty tasks with him and anticipated to be here in the mid of February in Pakistan.

While Pakistan’s ambassador designated for the United States will be in Washington during the similar times to take charge of his assignment. The Los Angeles Mayor, who has been appointed ambassador to India by the United States, would also be here during a similar period for assuming his office in New Delhi.

The announcements and placement of new diplomats in the south Asian region will have significant geopolitical importance with multiple tasks to perform for US interests here. The Los Angeles Mayor was listed as a candidate for the Presidential race, but he has accepted the diplomatic assignment instead of it that indicates the importance the US giving to its ties with India.

Last month during the meeting of the Senate Committee, Donald Blome said under its geo-economics policy, the US wants to increase financial and trade connections with Pakistan. He conveyed his persuasion to work for Pakistan’s digital economy and intellectual property protection, besides promoting opaque investment.

US Ambassador-designated to Pakistan Donald Blome has said through various interviews that Pak-US ties have remained unusual but the US wants to shape better joint and mutual relationships between Pakistan and India and said that “The South Asian region cannot afford further conflict.”

The designated US ambassador has avowed that Pakistan and the US will fight a combined battle against Al-Qaeda, Daesh, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and other religious groups in Pakistan. However, Blome earlier said he will emphasize the government of Pakistan to take stern measures against Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammads without any discrimination.

The identified areas which he revealed included safe evacuation of American citizens from Afghanistan will be my priority,” and stated that the US diplomatic mission in Pakistan would strive for a stable and all-inclusive government in Afghanistan. “I will make sure that Afghanistan does not turn into a safe haven for extremists.” 

He also expressed his resolve to protect human rights in Pakistan and further said that conduct meted out to minorities has discolored the country’s image. He added that the US would also raise its voice for defending the privileges of minorities, religious liberty and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT). In addition, Pakistan would also be asked to evade irritating human rights advocates and reporters.

A large scale high level delegation from Pakistan is also expected to take place in the early third week of significant meetings during with US Administration. The visit is being arranged in the days when Munich Security Conference (MSC) by the German government is being hosted. It’s an annual feature but it couldn’t take place due to the corona pandemic for two last consecutive years.

As a full-fledged US ambassador to Pakistan to US mission after a gap of five years specifies the United States plans to prioritize the region on a larger scale and with more focus on Pakistan and Afghanistan. In the name of international terror groups having safe havens in Pakistan and Afghanistan some important changes in legal framework followed by on ground operations are expected to resume again.

The coming of new US ambassador will bring stringent actions against the religious groups and security of the minorities including LGBT and foreigners. The US designated ambassador to Pakistan has already made it clear that he will push Islamabad to eradicate all terrorist groups without any favor including the TTP and indigenous Kashmiri freedom fighter groups.

As matter of fact Washington has its own strategies about new role of India and Pakistan as key players in Indian Ocean and  Pacific region as well as the South Asian region and Pakistan is willing to work with the US for the safety, wellbeing and prosperity of the South Asia.
