JERUSALEM, 5 November 2020, (TON): In a military supervised operation targeting an entire Palestinian community, Israel’s army demolished the houses of nearly 80 Palestinian Bedouins in the occupied West Bank, officials and witnesses said on Wednesday. Late on Tuesday, Israeli bulldozers razed the village — including tents, sheds, portable toilets and solar panels — near Tubas in the Jordan. The operation has made over several hundred people homeless.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh called on the international community to intervene against Israeli troops’ breach of human rights in which they displaced the citizens of Khirbet Humsa and tens of similar communities from their homes and lands, pointing to the fact that Israel “choose this evening to commit another crime” as the attention is focused on the United States presidential election.
Israeli rights group B’Tselem accused Israel and said the late-night operation in Homsa al-Baqia was unusual given that so many homes were targeted at the same time. It implied that the Jewish state timed the demolition to take place while world attention was focused on the US presidential election. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the past said he intended to annex parts of the West Bank and Jewish settlements in the Palestinian territory, including the Jordan Valley.
