WASHINGTON, 15 November 2022, (TON): Russian embassy said “Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov will meet with White House officials to discuss the treatment of Russians who are in US prisons.”

“It seems to me that the American authorities could do more, at least help people who find themselves in such difficult conditions, both with food and medical care,” Antonov was cited as saying on the embassy’s Telegram messaging app.

On Monday, US Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns met with Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia’s SVR foreign intelligence service, to discuss, among others, the issue of US prisoners in Russia.

RAMALLAH, 15 November 2022, (TON): Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has reiterated his concerns over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s hard-line policies as Israeli troops killed 16-year-old Palestinian girl Fullah Masalmah in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a statement that the girl, from the town of Dahiriya, south of Hebron, died after Israeli soldiers shot her in the head during their storming of Beitunia.

The Israeli armed forces rounded up several Palestinians across the West Bank at dawn and carried out vast invasive operations in several West Bank towns.

MONTREAL, 15 November 2022, (TON): Canadian federal police arrested a former electric vehicle battery researcher at public utility Hydro-Quebec on charges of espionage for allegedly sending trade secrets to China.

The man, who was recently fired by the utility, was taken into custody at his home in Candiac, a suburb of Montreal, by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police national security squad.

A statement said “Yuesheng Wang, 35, faces charges under the Criminal Code and the Security of Information Act for having allegedly obtained trade secrets to benefit the People’s Republic of China, to the detriment of Canada’s economic interests.”

NUSA DUA, 15 November 2022, (TON): Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said “Britain will spend £4.2 billion ($4.9 billion) on five new Navy ships to bolster security in the face of increased Russian threats.”

The statement said “the UK and allies are taking steps to bolster their security in the face of increased Russian threats.”

Sunak added “Russia’s actions put all of us at risk. As we give the Ukrainian people the support they need, we are also harnessing the breadth and depth of UK expertise to protect ourselves and our allies. This includes building the next generation of British warships.”

DHAKA, 15 November 2022, (TON): Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dr Lilly Nicholls met BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and discussed various issues relating to Bangladesh's upcoming national election and human rights situation.

Nicholls arrived at the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office at 1:30pm and had a 'closed-door' meeting there with a BNP delegation, led by Fakhrul.

BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid were present at the meeting that ended around 3:10pm.

NUSA DUA, 15 November 2022, (TON): French President Emmanuel Macron called for Paris and Beijing to unite against the war in Ukraine as he began a meeting with China’s leader Xi Jinping in Bali.

The two leaders shook hands as they began discussions on the sidelines of the G20 summit, which is expected to pile pressure on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine and address the global fallout from the war.

Macron told Xi “we must unite forces to respond to international crises like Russia’s war in Ukraine.”

French presidency said “Macron would tell the Chinese president it was in your interest to pressure Russia to return to the negotiating table over the Ukraine conflict.”

RIYADH, 15 November 2022, (TON): Authorities in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are planning to boost tourism cooperation between the countries.

Ahmad Al-Khateeb, the Saudi minister of tourism, and Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Kuwait’s minister of information, signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday, the Kuwait News Agency reported

It outlined plans for cooperation on legislation governing hotels, leisure facilities, statistics and exhibitions, among other things.

DHAKA, 15 November 2022, (TON): World Bank's South Asian Region Vice-President Martin Raiser said “Bangladesh has surprised the whole world through its tremendous development, describing the country as a successful case of development.”

He said "Bangladesh is a successful case of development and attained a very impressive achievement. Bangladesh is becoming one of the countries that surprise with its development.”

He made the remarks while paying a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Prime Minister's Office in Dhaka on Monday morning.

DHAKA, 15 November 2022, (TON): Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki said “expect that the next national election in Bangladesh will be held in a free and fair manner with the participation of all major political parties.”

He said “we expect the next election will be a better one. Free and fair elections need to be done here. That's my strong hope.”

The ambassador said he knows that the Election Commission is working for a free and fair election and the government of Bangladesh is also telling that a free and fair election will be conducted. “It's very important.”

NEW DELHI, 15 November 2022, (TON):  India submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change its long-term plan to achieve the net-zero target by 2070, emphasising climate justice, sustainable lifestyles and equity.

Fifty-eight countries have so far submitted their long-term low-emission development strategies (LT-LEDS).

Under the Paris Agreement, countries are required to submit long-term low-emission action plans to help achieve the global goal of limiting the temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius as compared to the pre-industrial average.

Short-term action plans to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius are called nationally-determined contributions or NDCs that the countries have to submit every five years.
