BRUSSELS, 06 November 2022, (TON): The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell will travel to the United Arab Emirates on 5-6 November.

He will hold bilateral meetings there and attend Sir Bani Yas Forum.

The visit will offer an opportunity to further reinvigorate the EU-UAE bilateral relationship and to also exchange with policy and opinion makers on regional matters and global affairs.

During his visit, HR/VP Borrell will entertain several bilateral meetings.

High Representative will meet Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates and Anwar Gargash, Presidential Advisor to the President of the United Arab Emirates.

RIYADH, 06 November 2022, (TON): According to an official report “Saudi authorities arrested 16,583 people in one week for breaching residency, work and border security regulations.”

From Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, a total of 10,007 people were arrested for violations of residency rules, while 4,404 were held over illegal border crossing attempts, and a further 2,172 for labor-related issues.

The report showed that among the 321 people arrested for trying to enter the Kingdom illegally, 43 percent were Yemeni, 51 percent Ethiopian, and 6 percent were of other nationalities.

A further 69 people were caught trying to cross into neighboring countries, and 23 were held for involvement in transporting and harboring violators.

DUBAI, 06 November 2022, (TON): Iran’s foreign minister on Saturday acknowledged for the first time that his country has supplied Russia with drones, insisting the transfer came before Moscow’s war on Ukraine that has seen the Iranian-made drones divebombing Kyiv.

The comments by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian come after months of confusing messaging from Iran about the weapons shipment, as Russia sends the drones slamming into Ukrainian energy infrastructure and civilian targets.

Amirabdollahian told reporters “we gave a limited number of drones to Russia months before the Ukraine war.”

BRUSSELS, 06 November 2022, (TON): The EU strongly condemns the significant increase of illegal missile launches by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, including, an intercontinental ballistic missile and the short-range ballistic missile that landed south of the Northern Limit Line.

These actions represent a dangerous escalation in the DPRK’s repeated violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

The unprecedented number of DPRK ballistic missiles launched in 2022 represents an alarming illustration of its intention to continue undermining the global non-proliferation regime.

This poses a grave threat to all nations and undermines international and regional peace and security.

TEHRAN, 06 November 2022, (TON): Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Friday dismissed a pledge from US leader Joe Biden to free Iran as the clerical regime faced a new upsurge in seven weeks of protests.

The protests began after the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini who had been arrested by the morality police.

In their scale, nationwide spread and anti-regime nature, the demonstrations have become the biggest challenge from the street to the authorities since the 1979 revolution.

Campaigning for mid-term elections in the United States, Biden had said “don’t worry we’re gonna free Iran. They’re gonna free themselves pretty soon.”

RIYADH, 06 November 2022, (TON): Implemented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, the Saudi Project for Landmine Clearance in Yemen dismantled 958 Houthi mines in the fourth week of October.

This figure includes eight anti-personnel mines, 284 anti-tank mines, 662 unexploded ordinances and four other explosive devices.

The project is one of several initiatives undertaken by Saudi Arabia on the orders of King Salman to help ease the suffering of the Yemeni people.

It clears routes for much-needed humanitarian aid aimed at supporting the country’s embattled citizens.

KYIV, 06 November 2022, (TON): Oleh, the commander of a Ukrainian mechanised infantry unit dug into trenches west of Kherson, is confident his Russian foes will be forced to abandon the strategic port by winter weather, logistical logjams and the threat of encirclement.

But neither he nor his men think the Russians will go quickly or quietly and nor do they intend to let them.

His comments raise the spectre of a bloody slog in the coming weeks for control of a key city on the west bank of the Dnipro River which acts as a gateway to the peninsula of Crimea annexed by Russia in 2014.

“They will keep fighting. They will defend their positions as long as they have the ability to do so,” said Oleh, 26, a battle-hardened major who has risen through the ranks since enlisting as a teenager 10 years ago.

“It will be a hard fight.”

ISTANBUL, 06 November 2022, (TON): Turkiye’s main opposition party has said its leader is the first target of a media disinformation law after police asked prosecutors to open an investigation into comments he made blaming authorities for a drug epidemic.

Last month parliament passed a law sought by President Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling party that allows judges to impose jail sentences of up to three years on anyone who spreads false or misleading information.

Critics say what can be deemed false or misleading under the law is vaguely defined and open to abuse, and the legislation has raised deep concerns over free speech ahead of next year’s elections in Turkiye, and questions over who might be prosecuted.

Kilicdaroglu is seen by many as the most likely candidate to challenge Erdogan in a presidential election set for next June.

JEDDAH, 06 November 2022, (TON): Foreign ministers from the G7 group of nations denounced the Tehran regime’s deadly crackdown on the wave of protests sweeping Iran.

The ministers said after talks in Germany “we condemn the brutal and disproportionate use of force against peaceful protesters.”

They said “we advocate the right of all Iranians to access information, and we deplore the Iranian government’s erosion of civil space, and independent journalism, its targeting of human rights defenders, including by shutting down the internet and social media.”

The G7 also criticized Tehran’s destabilizing activities in and around the Middle East, such as the supply of weapons, including drones, “to state and non-state actors.”

DHAKA, 06 November 2022, (TON): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon Bangladesh's youths to engage in inspiring people to form cooperatives for boosting food production and pulling the country ahead further.    

She said "youth folk will have to come forward. We can go a long way if the youths do their activities in bringing village people together as everyone will have responsibility.”

The premier was addressing a function on the 51st National Cooperative Day at Bangabandhu International Conference Center as the chief guest, joining virtually from her official residence, Ganabhaban.
