Hundreds of people have attended protest against Al-Shabab. On 5 January 2020, another deadly attack took place. Witnesses from Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) said after the attack black smoke was seen coming out from Camp Simba on Manda Island. A military representative US Africa Command said that although gunmen entered the camp area and an attempt was made to breach security at Manda Air Strip but the attack was repulsed, however, two US aircraft, two helicopters and multiple vehicles were destroyed at the airstrip. Website used by Al Shabab claimed that they successfully stormed the fortified military base and took effective control of a part, causing heavy casualties of both American and Kenyan troops stationed there while they also destroyed seven aircrafts.

Since decades the US has stationed a number of troops throughout Africa while Kenya sent troops into Somalia in 2011. It stepped up military operations against Al Shabab after 2017 which witnessed further increase including extensive use of drones in 2019.  Last year US reopened its embassy in Somalia after 28 years. Presently, UN, US and African Union-backed government is waging war against Al-Shabab for control of the country. As a new strategy, US already announced strategy last year to pull out it troops and intelligence agents leaving behind bare minimum, to facilitate drone and targeted attacks against orthodox Muslims. In the months to come US would carry out genocide of Somalis professing orthodox Islam and those who challenge modern reforms and secular society in Somalia. Analysts are expressing their fear that the Intelligence agencies sponsored series of terrorist attacks on civilians, armed forces, government officials as well as foreigners would increase in the month to come to build public opinion against Al Shabab so that US, EU and regional forces may completely eliminate them from Africa.
