Earthquake 7.0-magnitude jolts Turkey, killing at least eleven

IZMIR, 30 October 2020, (TON): At least 11 people have been killed and 35 people injured in western Turkey after a powerful 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit the Aegean Sea on Friday afternoon. The quake struck 14 kilometers northeast of the town of Néon Karlovásion on the Greek island of Samos.

The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan tweeted: "Get well soon İzmir."

"With all the means of our state, we stand by our citizens affected by the earthquake. We took action to start the necessary work in the region with all our relevant institutions and ministers,"

Earlier, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca confirmed death toll as four in Turkish city of Izmir.He said, at least 20 buildings collapsed in Izmir.

Images showed collapse buildings while media footage showed people digging through the rubble, apparently in search of survivors.
