BEIJING, 24 October 2022, (TON): Xi Jinping secured a historic third term as China’s leader and promoted some of his closest Communist Party allies, cementing his position as the nation’s most powerful leader since Mao Zedong.
The Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party elected Xi as its general secretary for another five-year term, Xinhua reported, tilting the country decisively back toward one-man rule after decades of power-sharing among its elite.
“The world needs China,” said Jinping as he spoke to the press after securing a historic third term as leader.
Xi said “China cannot develop without the world, and the world also needs China.”
AMMAN, 24 October 2022, (TON): Jordan’s Ministry of Health launched the country’s 2023-2030 National Nutrition Strategy in collaboration with the World Health Organization, Jordan News Agency reported.
The approach seeks to improve the nutritional status of all groups in Jordanian society to prevent malnutrition and obesity, as well as diet-related noncommunicable diseases.
It comes within the royal vision of achieving economic and social development objectives.
During the launch ceremony, Health Minister Firas Al-Hawari said that Jordan has made significant nutritional advances in recent decades, citing progress in addressing childhood malnutrition as evidenced by low prevalence rates of stunting and wasting.
ANKARA, 24 October 2022, (TON): Turkey and Israel are poised to forge closer ties on various fronts, including military cooperation, after months of rapprochement.
For an official visit to meet his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar, Israel’s Defence Minister Benny Gantz is due in Turkey next Wednesday.
Days before elections in Israel, the visit will be the first by an Israel defense minister to Turkey in a decade.
Defense Ministry of Israel said "two months ago, Director of the Policy and POL-MIL Bureau Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Dror Shalom also visited Turkey “to reopen channels for defense ties between the countries."
LONDON, 24 October 2022, (TON): Former prime minister Boris Johnson pulled out of the contest to become Britain’s next leader, saying he had the support of enough lawmakers to progress to the next stage but far fewer than front-runner former finance minister Rishi Sunak.
Johnson said in a statement “there is a very good chance that I would be successful in the election with Conservative Party members — and that I could indeed be back in Downing Street."
“But in the course of the last days I have sadly come to the conclusion that this would simply not be the right thing to do. You can’t govern effectively unless you have a united party in parliament.”
RIYADH, 24 October 2022, (TON): Royal Court said "Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan will chair the Kingdom’s delegation to an upcoming Arab League Summit in Algeria."
The delegation was originally to be headed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman but doctors have advised him to avoid traveling by plane for long distances without stopping.
This is in order to avoid pressure trauma to Prince Mohammed’s ear and affecting his middle ear.
King Salman affirmed that the Kingdom stands by Algeria and supports everything that will make the summit successful.

WASHINGTON, 24 October 2022, (TON): The United States, Britain and France jointly dismissed Russian claims that Ukraine is preparing to use a dirty bomb and warned Moscow against using any pretext for escalating the conflict.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu made the allegation about a possible dirty bomb attack in a round of telephone conversations with Western defense chiefs.
US State Department said “our countries made clear that we all reject Russia’s transparently false allegations that Ukraine is preparing to use a dirty bomb on its own territory."
“The world would see through any attempt to use this allegation as a pretext for escalation,” the statement went on.
ROME, 24 October 2022, (TON): French President Emmanuel Macron said "Ukrainians will decide when peace is possible, speaking at the start of a peace summit in Rome."
Since the beginning of the conflict in February, Macron has differed from other Western leaders in pushing to keep talks open with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
Macron said during a speech “let’s not let peace be hostage to Russian power."
Peace is possible, but only they will decide when they decide it.
He said at the summit “peace will be built with the other, who is today’s enemy, around a table."
AMMAN, 24 October 2022, (TON): Saudi Arabia donated $27 million to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East to support the organization’s operations in the Palestinian territories.
The donation came as part of the Kingdom’s 2018/2019 pledge to support the agency’s core services with a donation of $50 million.
The contribution is part of a larger pledge by the Kingdom, which has been one of the agency’s top donors for decades, to help the UNRWA continue to provide critical services to the 5.6 million Palestine refugees in the region.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Saudi Ambassador to Jordan Nayef Al-Sudairi, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, and Dr. Ahmad Abu Holie, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and head of the Department of Refugee Affairs.
DHAKA, 24 October 2022, (TON): Permanent representative of Bangladesh to the UN, ambassador Muhammad A Muhith has said "multidimensional cooperation between the militaries of Bangladesh and the United States is increasing."
Welcoming a US Army War College delegation, comprising 26 members, at the permanent mission of Bangladesh, he discussed Bangladesh’s engagements in maintaining international peace and security.
The ambassador focused on Bangladesh’s important contribution to UN peacekeeping operations as the topmost troops and police-contributing country.
He highlighted the visionary leadership of prime minister Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh’s graduation from the LDC category.
