KYIV, 21 October 2022, (TON): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the West to warn Russia not to blow up a huge dam that would flood a swath of southern Ukraine.
The call comes as his forces prepare to push Moscow’s troops from Kherson in one of the war’s most important battles.
In a television address, Zelensky said Russian forces had planted explosives inside the huge Nova Kakhovka dam, which holds back an enormous reservoir that dominates much of southern Ukraine, and were planning to blow it up.
He said “now everyone in the world must act powerfully and quickly to prevent a new Russian terrorist attack. Destroying the dam would mean a large-scale disaster."

RIYADH, 21 October 2022, (TON): Two high profile green forums spearheaded by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will take place in November alongside the UN’s flagship climate change summit to be held in Egypt.
The Crown Prince has announced the second editions of the Middle East Green Initiative Summit and the Saudi Green Initiative Forum will be held in Sharm El Sheikh in tandem with the global Climate Change Conference, known as COP27.
The MGI Summit will be held on Nov. 7, while the SGI Forum will be held on Nov. 11-12.

BEIJING, 06 September 2022, (TON): At least 46 people were killed when a strong earthquake struck southwestern China, state media reported, as violent tremors in a remote region damaged homes and left some areas without electricity.

The magnitude 6.6 quake hit about 43 kilometers southeast of the city of Kangding in Sichuan province at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey.

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said that 17 people died in Ya’an city, while 29 deaths were reported in neighboring Ganzi Prefecture.

JERUSALEM, 06 September 2022, (TON): Israeli authorities advanced a plan to build nearly 500 homes in a new settlement in east Jerusalem that rights groups say will further sever it from the nearby Palestinian city of Bethlehem and the southern West Bank.

The planned Givat HaShaked settlement is part of a cluster of settlements on the southern edge of east Jerusalem, many of which have already been built up into full-fledged residential neighborhoods.

Critics say they further undermine any hopes for a two-state solution.

Ir Amim, an Israeli rights group that closely follows developments in Jerusalem, said the plan for the settlement was approved to be deposited for objections, a key step in a bureaucratic process that could continue for months or years before construction begins.

LONDON, 06 September 2022, (TON): Britain’s new Conservative leader Liz Truss Monday vowed bold action to fix the country’s worst economic crisis in decades, as she was confirmed as Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s successor after a gruelling party contest.

The foreign secretary resisted pressure for a politically perilous early election to confirm her new mandate, vowing instead to deliver a great victory for the Conservative party in 2024.

Truss beat her rival, former finance minister Rishi Sunak, by about 57 to 43 percent after a summer-long contest decided by just over 170,000 Conservative members a tiny sliver of Britain’s electorate.

Sunak, who has been lukewarm about whether he would serve in Truss’s cabinet tweeted that now was the time for the party to unite as one family.

CAIRO, 06 September 2022, (TON): Egyptian Ambassador Hossam Issa met with Sudan’s Minister of Electricity and Energy Mohamed Abdullah.

They discussed developments regarding electrical interconnection between the two countries, and proposals for cooperation in the field of renewable especially solar energy.

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said they also discussed “training courses for Sudanese in the fields of energy and oil.”

YANGON, 06 September 2022, (TON): Myanmar’s junta chief arrived in Vladivostok to attend the Eastern Economic Forum, his second trip to Russia in less than two months, in what former officials said is part of the ruling military’s attempt to establish special relations with Moscow.

The southeast Asian country has maintained friendly ties with Russia since the junta seized power from the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021.

The coup saw Myanmar slapped with sanctions from Western countries and faced with a downgrade in relations, with Moscow under the same scrutiny over its invasion of Ukraine, which it calls a special military operation.

In July, Myanmar and Russia agreed to deepen their defense cooperation when Snr. Gen. Min Aung Hlaing visited the latter on what was reported as a private visit.

RIYADH, 06 September 2022, (TON): Saudi Press Agency reported “Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Nayef Al-Hajraf, has called for closer Gulf-Singaporean ties.”

During a meeting at the GCC headquarters in Riyadh, with Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, Al-Hajraf stressed the need to seize opportunities to enhance economic and commercial cooperation.

Both officials discussed political and economic issues of common interest and reviewed ways to strengthen cooperation between the Gulf states and Singapore across all fields.

They also reviewed developments of the 2008 GCC-Singapore free trade agreement and means to boost It to achieve common interest.

RIYADH, 06 September 2022, (TON): the Saudi Press Agency reported “Saudi Arabia has expressed solidarity with China after an earthquake in Sichuan province caused scores to die.”

The Saudi foreign ministry offered condolences to the Chinese people, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck China’s Sichuan province on Monday, the strongest to hit the region since 2017, killing more than 40 people and shaking the provincial capital of Chengdu and more distant provinces.

Forty-six people were killed in the quake, Chinese state media Xinhua reported, citing local authorities at a press briefing.
