DHAKA, 09 November 2022, (TON): The ambassadors of Sweden and Norway to Bangladesh had a ‘closed-door' meeting with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and discussed various issues relating to the country's next national election.

Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Berg Von Linde and Norwegian envoy Espen Rikter-Svendsen sat in the meeting with Fakhrul at the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office at 3:10pm and it continued until 4:30pm.

BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was present at the meeting.

LONDON, 09 November 2022, (TON): University and College Union (UCU) said “”more than 70,000 university staff at 150 British universities will strike for three days in November over pay, working conditions and pensions.”

UCU general secretary Jo Grady said “campuses across the UK are about to experience strike action on a scale never seen before.”

Grady added “this dispute has the mass support of students because they know their learning conditions are our members’ working conditions.”

The union said “the full strike dates would take place on Nov. 24, 25 and 30.”

DHAKA, 09 November 2022, (TON): UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwyn Lewis has made it clear that it is not for her or the UN to take decisions or engage in the election process of Bangladesh and laid emphasis on peaceful exercise of political activities.

She said “people have been injured and killed over the past months which is obviously a concern and called for calm and to find avenues for discussion.”

Lewis said “it's not for me or the UN to really decide and engage in election.”

He said that there is no mandate for the UN to engage in election here unless they get a specific request from the Security Council or General Assembly or the country.

TOKYO, 09 November 2022, (TON): The Sixth “Saudi-Japan Vision 2030” Ministerial Meeting was held in Tokyo under the auspices of the Saudi Ministry of Investment and the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

On the Japanese side, Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Yamada Kenji, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, participated in the meeting, with Nishimura making the opening speech.

On the Saudi side, Khalid Al-Fatih, Minister of Investment, gave an opening address, and was joined at the meeting by the Saudi ambassador to Japan, Naif Al Fahadi.

The minister said “Saudi Arabia is very keen on promoting and strengthening this strategic partnership with Japan as a reliable partner.”

RIYADH, 09 November 2022, (TON): The state news agency reported “Saudi King Salman received a letter from Guinea’s Interim President Mamady Doumbouya.”

The letter, handed over to Saudi’s Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, addressed bilateral relations and proposed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries across various fields.

Delivering the letter, the Special Envoy of Guinea’s President Fode Amadou Fofana met with Al-Khuraiji in Riyadh where both exchanged views on issues of common interest and reiterated the increasing cooperation between both countries.

NEW DELHI, 09 November 2022, (TON): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, will address the 25th edition of Asia's largest Tech Event 'Bengaluru Tech Summit', during its inaugural on November 16.

The flagship event organised by the Department of Electronics, IT, Bt, S&T, Government of Karnataka along with Software Technology Parks of India will be held physically from November 16 to 18 at the iconic Bangalore Palace.

According to E V Ramana Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Electronics, IT, Bt and S&T, Government of Karnataka, it will be a recorded address by both PM Modi and President Macron.

DHAKA, 09 November 2022, (TON): Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said “the joining of world leaders' to the COP-27 conference ushered a new hope towards protecting the world from the adverse impact of climate change.”

According to a release received here “the minister, who is now visiting Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt to join the COP-27 as the representative of the Prime Minister, was talking to reporters.”

He highlighted different issues including the commitments of developed nations to protect the world from the adverse impact of climate change and the lack of progress in various fields including inter-country technical cooperation.

DHAKA, 09 November 2022, (TON): UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwyn Lewis said “despite other major developing crises in the world, the United Nations continues to focus on the Rohingya issue, and has been trying to find a political solution.”

She said “it's incredibly challenging. The focus is there.”

She added that they are working on the ground for safe and dignified return of the displaced Rohingyas currently in Bangladesh to Myanmar.

The UNRC was speaking at DCAB Talk, organized by Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh at Dhaka's Jatiya Press Club.

Responding to a question on the political situation ahead of the next national election in Bangladesh, the UN Resident Coordinator made it clear that decisions are up to Bangladesh and the government.
